The beaches of Mauritius: a taste of heaven on earth
July 19, 2018
The main ingredients of a holiday in Mauritius are sun, sea and sand. The exotic island in the Indian Ocean is surrounded by 150 km of pristine beaches. With its snow-white beaches, azure lagoons and swaying palm trees, the beaches of Mauritius embody the traditional fantasy of heaven on earth. No wonder that the exotic island is such a favourite among beach enthusiasts and honeymooners.
Coral reef
You could say that the whole of Mauritius, which has a surface area comparable with a Belgian province, is bordered with dreamy beaches. Only the south side of the island has less attractive beaches and no coral reef. All other regions have the characteristic powder white beaches with warm lagoons and water that runs the gamut of colours from blue to turquoise. Unsurprisingly this is also where most of the hotels are located. By the way, these are all luxury hotels that leave no stone unturned to pamper their (affluent) guests. Mauritius implements a tourist-oriented policy that primarily focuses on luxury tourism.
Sun worshippers
As mentioned above sun worshippers will want for nothing here thanks to the wonderful sand beaches for which Mauritius has become famous. As a result it’s quite a task to draw up a list of the best beaches. However, the Mauritius tourist office promotes the following beaches as ‘the best beaches definitely worth a visit’: Pereybere, Flic en Flac, Le Morne, Belle Mare, Blue Bay and Ile aux Cerfs.
