The future of 'connected' rental cars
March 30, 2019
Connected cars are the future, also within the rental car segment. For example, Avis Budget Group and Continental are continuing work on their partnership, with Avis increasing its fleet of 'connected cars' in Europe and the United States by equipping 50,000 vehicles (25,000 of which in Europe) with the improved Key as a Service (KaaS) technology from Continental.
Continental's improved KaaS solution enables two-way data communication between a vehicle and the cloud-based system of Avis Budget Group and the Avis mobile app, which effectively 'connects' the car. Connected vehicles enable Avis customers to manage their entire rental experience through the recently updated Avis mobile app.
Physical car keys are thus no longer needed, and the customer can unlock and start the car via his smartphone. The rental experience will continue to evolve into an experience where flexibility and ease of use are central. Upgrading, extending the rental period en route and changing plans are all possible at the touch of a button.
Avis Preferred customers can enjoy the exclusive self-service functionality, where the car itself can be found easily via the app and where you no longer have to stand in line to complete paperwork. This service is also available at leading Avis locations within Europe.
