The Paris Metro Ticket disappears
June 11, 2019
The days of the Paris metro ticket are over. Mid 2020 the "carnet" for ten journeys will be abolished. The ticket for an individual journey will definitively disappear in 2021.
The Navigo Easy rechargeable card has recently been offered to tourists and business travellers. This contactless card costs 2 euros and makes it possible to store individual tickets, ten-ride cards, day passes and bus tickets for the airports of Orly and Roissy.
Another advantage is that Navigo Easy is not registered by name and can, therefore, be lent to someone else. Every traveller must have a card. For example, an adult travelling with a child needs two tickets.
From this fall, the gradual abolition of the cardboard ticket will continue with the arrival of Navigo Liberté +, with which the journeys made can be invoiced monthly. It will then be possible to charge the card with a smartphone.
This operation is also of a sustainable nature since around 500 million cardboard tickets end up in nature every year.
